A hostname is a label that's assigned to a device connected to a computer network
00:08
and can be used to refer to that device. I can use a hostname to refer to it in
00:16
the URL by using a hostname you don't have to worry about the IP address
00:21
changing. Your groov EPIC unit comes with an assigned hostname from the factory,
00:26
but you can change the default name to something more meaningful. Let's see how.
00:32
First make sure you're logged in to your groov EPIC as an administrator. From the
00:39
groov manage home screen select system,
00:44
and then network. We see here the current hostname looks like it's the factory
00:53
default. To confirm it is take a look at the label attached on the back of the
00:58
touch screen. The default factory host name is printed there. Change the
01:05
hostname by selecting it and typing in a new hostname. And, the hostname can be up
01:14
to 128 characters long. Then, click outside of the hostname field and
01:21
select save. A message appears letting you know that the device's network
01:28
session is restarting.
01:32
Notice how my new hostname is now used in my URL instead of the IP address, but,
01:40
you can still also use the IP address to access the unit.
