Gadgets report error messages when scanning OPC-UA devices while running groov View with an expired license

Applies To:

  • GROOV-AR1, GROOV-AR1-BASE, GROOV-AR1-SNAP
  • GROOV-AT1, GROOV-AT1-SNAP
  • GROOV-SVR-WIN, GROOV-SVR-WIN-BASE, GROOV-SVR-WIN-SNAP

Versions Affected:

R3.5a through R4.0a

Symptoms:

For any pages that have gadgets that point to tags on OPC-UA devices, that gadget displays a yellow triangle and the following message:

A value has not been received yet. groov is trying to connect to the controller or server.

When you look at system logs, you'll see many messages like the following:

2018-05-29T16:45:15-04:00 updateScannerSubscriptions - An exception occurred! 'java.lang.NullPointerException' FATAL - com.opto22.groov.server.data.SubscriptionManager

For gadgets pointing to other devices, you may see the following messages:

Your license is expired! To renew your license, visit manage.groov.com or call 800-321-OPTO (6786).

You might see that the gadget displays some approriate values before it displays these symptoms because groov View was able to obtain some valid values before it scanned the gadgets pointing to OPC-UA devices.

Workaround:

Try one of the following:

  • On groov Server for Windows, stop groov View and delete the expired license file.
  • On any platform, install a valid license.

Resolution:

Opto 22 has resolved this issue and will include the fix in an upcoming release.
