WiFi SSIDs with space characters may not display in groov Manage, or connection may not restore

Applies To:

Firmware for the following groov EPICs:

  • GRV-EPIC-PR1
  • GRV-EPIC-PR2
Firmware for the following groov RIOs:
  • GRV-R7-MM1001-10
  • GRV-R7-MM2001-10
  • GRV-R7-IVAPM-3

Versions Affected:

All versions

Symptoms:

If you connect your groov EPIC or RIO to a wireless network that has an SSID with spaces, there are two symptoms you may observe:

  • groov Manage may not display the SSID name even though the connection is functioning.
  • If you do a Back and Restore as part of a firmware update or separately, your connection is not restored.

Workaround:

Try one of the following:

  • If you can modify the SSID name of the wireless network, rename it to something that does not contain a space. For example, replace space characters with underscores or hyphens:
    • Original: My Wifi Network. Renamed: My_Wifi_Network.
    • Original: My Wifi Network. Renamed: My-Wifi-Network.

Verify that your EPIC or RIO device can connect to it.

  • Generate a backup without the WiFi configuration, restore the configuration, then manually configure WiFi connectivity:
    1. Disable the WiFi network interface:
      1. From the groov Manage Home page, click Network > Configure.
      2. Save the setting information in the Wi-Fi section; for example, take a screenshot from your browser or write it down.
      3. In the Wi-Fi section, click the IPv4 Method field and select Disabled.
      4. Click Save and wait for the network interfaces to restart.
    2. Create a backup. This can be part of a firmware update or a manually created backup. To manually create a backup:
      1. From the groov Manage Home page, click Maintenance > Backup.
      2. Click Download Backup.
    3. Restore using the backup you created in the previous step. If you started a firmware update in the previous step, the restore is done as part of the update. To manually restore a backup file:
      1. From the groov Manage Home page, click Maintenance > Restore.
      2. Click Upload Backup.
      3. Navigate to the folder where your backup file is stored. Select it and click Open.
    4. Manually re-enter the WiFi configuration for the EPIC or RIO:
      1. From the groov Manage Home page, click Network > Configure.
      2. In the Wi-Fi section, click the IPv4 method field and select either Automatic or Manual, whichever you had saved in step 1.b.
      3. Fill in the remaining fields according to the information you recorded in step 1.b.
      4. Click Save and wait for the network interfaces to restart.
