MQTT/Data Service may not issue Death Certificate when MQTT service restarted

Applies To:

Firmware for the following groov EPICs:

  • GRV-EPIC-PR1
  • GRV-EPIC-PR2
Firmware for the following groov RIOs:
  • GRV-R7-MM1001-10
  • GRV-R7-MM2001-10
  • GRV-R7-I1VAPM-3

Versions Affected:

For groov EPICs: All versions prior to 3.4.2
For groov RIOs: All versions prior to 3.4.1

Resolved In Version:

For groov EPICs: 3.4.2
For groov RIOs: 3.4.1

Symptoms:

When you make a change to a configuration setting of the MQTT service or Data Service (for example, changing a group ID in MQTT Sparkplug page, a base name in MQTT string page, or enabling Allow Anonymous Access in OPC UA Server page), groov EPIC or groov RIO restarts those services to implement the change. During that time, they should issue a Death Certificate to indicate that subsequent tag data is stale. However, with this issue, groov EPIC and groov RIO do not issue the Death Certificate.

Workaround:

Do the following:

  1. Stop the MQTT service (pre-3.4.0) or Data Service (3.4.0 or later).
    • For pre-3.4.0: From the groov Manage Home page, click MQTT, then Disable.
    • For 3.4.0 or higher: From the groov Manage Home page, click Data Service, then Disable.
  2. Make the configuration change.
  3. Start the MQTT service or Data Service.
    • For pre-3.4.0: From the groov Manage MQTT page, click Enable.
    • For 3.4.0 or higher: On the groov Manage Data Service page, click Enable.
