PAC Control won't close Edit I/O Unit dialog box; "The address is being used by another I/O unit"

Applies To:

PAC Control Basic
PAC Control Professional

Versions Affected:

R10.0a

Resolved In Version:

R10.2a

Symptoms:

Note: This issue affects strategies that have been upgraded to PAC Control R10.0a. It does not affect strategies created in PAC Control R10.0a.

You may see any of three symptoms:

Symptom 1: When you click OK after editing an I/O unit (Configure > I/O > Modify), instead of closing the dialog box, PAC Control R10.0a may display a message that reads, "The address is being used by another I/O unit. Please enter a unique address for this I/O unit."

Symptom 2: When you download and run your strategy, you may receive the following sequence of errors in the controller's message queue:

  • -539 "I/O error; performing retry."
  • -539 "I/O error; performing retry."
  • -454 "Unable to connect to DNS server. Check DNS and gateway configuration."
  • -534 "Attempt(s) to communicate with I/O Unit failed."
Symptom 3: If your strategy uses Scratch Pad commands, then when you download and run the strategy, the Scratch Pad commands will cause a loss of communication on the controller's host port.

You will see these symptoms when:

The strategy has been upgraded to PAC Control R10.0a from a previous version, and prior to upgrading, the strategy contained two or more I/O units that did not have secondary IP addresses configured.

Cause: PAC Control R10.0a mistakenly set all I/O Unit unused secondary IP addresses to 0.0.0.0.

Workaround:

If you close the message box by clicking Cancel or the Close (X) icon, your I/O unit changes will not be saved

To change the I/O unit:

  1. Create a new I/O unit.
  2. Move all the points from the old I/O unit to the new I/O unit.
  3. Delete the old I/O unit.
  4. Rename the new I/O unit to the old I/O unit name.
  5. Make the changes you need.
