SoftPAC: Startup logic doesn't run, I/O isn't enabled, and Message Queue displays I/O errors

Symptoms:

Note: This KB is for information only. This issue affects SoftPAC running on Windows 8 or higher. It does not affect PAC Sim.

After you power up a PC running Windows 8 or higher, you may notice in SoftPAC:

The I/O is not enabled.
I/O errors are displayed (SoftPAC > Overview tab > Strategy Status > Messages).
The strategy restarts from where it left off (that is, the startup logic wasn't executed).

These issues happen only when all of these conditions are true:

You have powered up your PC. Note that restarting the PC (Windows > Power > Restart) does not result in these issues.
Windows Fast Startup is enabled (Windows > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do)
SoftPAC Start Type is Automatic (SoftPAC > Overview tab)
The strategy is configured to save to flash memory and the autorun flag is set (PAC Control > Strategy Options > Download tab).

Workaround:

Turn off Windows Fast Start:

In the Windows task bar, right-click the Start menu icon, and then click "Power Options."
For Windows 8.x:
– In the Power Options window, click "Choose what the power button does."
– For "When I press the Power button," select "Shut down."

For Windows 10:
– In the Power Options window, click "Choose what the power buttons do"
– In the System Settings window, if you see the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" option, click it to display the Shutdown settings.
– Then, under Shutdown settings, uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)."

Resolution:

In a future release, SoftPAC Monitor will display a message under the Auto Start option to remind you to turn off Windows Fast Start.
