In groov, SSL certificate configuration may cause Node-RED ports to be unresponsive

Applies To:

GROOV-AR1
GROOV-AR1-BASE
GROOV-AR1-SNAP

Versions Affected:

Versions affected: groov Admin 1.570.44
Problem is fixed in version: groov Admin 1.570.45

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: groov Admin 1.570.45

Symptoms:

NOTE: This issue does not apply when you use self-signed SSL certificates generated on a groov AR1, or when you upload an SSL certificate and key in a single file.

Node-RED (port 1880) and Node-RED Admin (port 3000) may become unresponsive when you reboot the AR1 after uploading:

  • An SSL public certificate and private key in separate files, or
  • A "chained certificate" (that is, an SSL certificate that uses a chain of trust)
Browser errors include:
  • Chrome: This site can't be reached. [hostname] refused to connect.
  • Firefox: Unable to connect. Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at [hostname:port].
  • Edge: Hmm, we can't reach this page.

Workaround:

Note: This workaround will not work if a chained certificate is required.

Configure SSL on the AR1 with a combined private key and public certificate file. This is easily done by just copying and pasting the contents of the two files together.

Resolution:
