Newer firmware files may not install properly when a microSDHC card is in the controller

Applies To:

Versions Affected:

Versions affected: PAC Manager R9.3a and higher
Problem is fixed in version: R9.5b

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: R9.5b

Symptoms:

When a firmware file is too large to install on a controller using the normal process, PAC Manager R9.3a (and higher) can install the firmware using a "bridge." However, this special process fails when a microSDHC card is inserted in the controller and the bridge firmware is version S9.2c. (Bridge firmware S9.2c is a feature of PAC Manager R9.3a through R9.5a.)

Note: This issue does not happen when the controller is using a microSD card.
microSD cards have a capacity of 2GB of data or less.  microSDHC cards have a capacity of more than 2 GB of data.

Symptoms that indicate you are affected by this issue include:

  • A microSDHC card is inserted in your controller.
  • The firmware installer never finishes.
  • The controller won't boot up.
  • During the installation, PAC Manager indicates (for about two minutes), "Waiting for reboot."
  • PAC Manager then indicates, "Firmware update completed, but restart could not be confirmed."
  • The STAT LED on the controller remains off for about 5 minutes, then starts flashing as it finishes booting up.
  • PAC Manager's Inspect dialog box indicates firmware version S9.2c is installed.

Workaround:

Eject the microSDHC card prior to updating the firmware, and then reinsert the card after the firmware update is complete.

Resolution:
