When SoftPAC starts strategy on Windows boot, I/O units may not be initialized

Applies To:

SOFTPAC

Versions Affected:

Problem affects versions: R9.3c and lower
Problem is fixed in version: R9.3d

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: R9.3d

Symptoms:

If SoftPAC is set as an Automatic service under Windows, the PAC Control strategy is configured to auto-run, and the strategy is stored to flash, SoftPAC may not properly initialize I/O units when the computer starts. As a result, communication from the SoftPAC controller to the I/O units is disabled. The problem occurs if SoftPAC starts running before the Windows TCP/IP system is initialized.

Workaround:

  1. Open the strategy in PAC Control configure mode.
  2. In the Powerup chart, add a delay at the beginning of the strategy. The length of the delay depends on your system; make sure it's long enough so that the Windows TCP/IP system on the computer is initialized.
  3. Add an "Enable All I/O Units" command immediately after the delay.
