Possible errors when importing charts with filenames using Microsoft reserved names

Applies To:

PAC Control Professional
PAC Control Basic

Versions Affected:

Problem was discovered in version: R8.1d
Problem is fixed in version: R8.2b

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: R8.2b

Symptoms:

If a chart is imported and named the same as one of the Microsoft reserved system device driver names, problems may result. The following is an example of what may be displayed after clicking OK from the Automatic Chart Import window, and the imported chart is named "AUX."

Subsequent attempts to open a strategy with an incorrectly named chart causes PAC Control to crash.

The reserved names are:
CON NUL
PRN COM1–COM9
AUX LPT1–LPT9
CLOCK$

For a list of the device driver names and more information about this topic, see Microsoft KB74496.

Workaround:

To avoid this problem, do not use one of the reserved device driver names.
