Long timeouts and incorrect PID references in controller error queue

Applies To:

SNAP-PAC-S1
SNAP-PAC-S2
SNAP-PAC-R1
SNAP-PAC-R2

Versions Affected:

Problem was discovered in version: R8.1a
Problem is fixed in version: R8.2a

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: R8.2a

Symptoms:

Long timeouts and retries may occur if there's an I/O error while a control engine checks for "running PIDs" when a strategy is started. Running PIDs on an I/O unit are PIDs from a strategy on another controller, or from a strategy that was previously downloaded to the current controller.

After the timeouts and retries, the controller does not flag the I/O unit as being offline. Consequently, the controller continues to check the I/O unit for running PID loops (96 total). The timeout and retries sequence is repeated each time the controller tries to communicate to the I/O unit.

Another problem related to running PIDs is that when one is found, a warning is posted to the controller error queue. Regardless of the actual PID loop number (#0 through #95), the message always indicates the running PID is on loop #0.
