Ethernet devices may not respond as expected because of duplicate subnets on SNAP PACs

Applies To:

PAC Manager

Versions Affected:

Problem was discovered in version: R8.1e
Problem is fixed in version: R8.1f

Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in version: R8.1f

Symptoms:

SNAP PACs may not respond as expected after using PAC Manager's Tools→Change IP Settings. PAC Manager allows an obscure method of setting the two Ethernet interfaces to the same network segment which is an invalid configuration.

When both control engine Ethernet interfaces are used, they must be on separate network segments so the control engine can determine where to direct communication. (See form 1704, the PAC Manager User's Guide, for more information.) If the IP address and the subnet mask are set such that both Ethernet interfaces are on the same segment, a message that should go out on ENET2, goes out on ENET1 because ENET1 is recognized as having the required subnet.
